Mom was truly a pioneer when it came to health and fitness! She didn't start exercising until she was in her 40's! It was rare to find Women running races and Marathons 40 years ago, in fact she knew well her only other female competitor. Mom was amazing she was motivated by pure grit inner strength! Her motto was "The best way up a hill was the fastest way!" You wouldn't catch her walking, her perseverance is inspiring. Some of us inherited her competitive spirit, she never quit. Mom ran Marathons and and participated in many races. She had another goal, to do a Triathlon, she was determined to learn how to swim and meet her goals, which she did with out drowning! We hope Celeste will share some stories about that. She also loved Biking and went on several amazing Bike trips.
A lot has changed since then!! There was no coolmax, energy drinks, gu's, high tech shoes etc. Mom was running in cotton tube socks, short shorts, and a t-shirt that usually said "Foxy Grandma"! (DeAnn has live most of her life embarrassed!) Mom said that she would have the worst blisters, but she never quit! She said she could not drink or eat anything during an entire marathon or else she would barf. WOW
